A video message from Krysta Rodriguez…

Marianna came into my life when I was 15 years old. I’m so grateful she did. Not only is she an amazing vocal coach, but she was always a huge fan, confidence builder, and positive light. I looked forward to seeing her weekly. As my career has taken me away from my routine sessions with her, our relationship still stayed strong. I’m so blessed to have her friendship. I’ve always had her support over the years and she definitely has mine as she continues this journey she so bravely travels. Nothing will stop her from pushing forward and keeping that positive attitude. I love you Marianna!

Singing and studying in the studio with my daughter Marianna and performing with proVoce productions was so special to me. I watched my daughter perform in many productions over the years. Marianna produced and performed in a show called Broadway Showstoppers, one of my favorites. She was incredible. A very classy performance. The passion in her singing and her love of music enabled her to bring those skills as a performer to her students. I was inspired watching my daughter thrive and grow over time with her teaching and coaching always with a personal touch. I am so proud of her and her accomplishments. A special time for me, as her mother, was when we sang together in the “Mother-Daughter Concerts”. Her coaching and teaching continues to inspire everyone who is her student. She makes it her passion to get the best out of everyone and watch all of her students thrive and grow.

Marianna was my voice teacher as I transitioned from teenager to young woman. Not only was she an amazing voice teacher, but she instilled me with the confidence and inspiration necessary for the professional career that I have today. I will be forever grateful for her guidance and support. Love you Marianna!

I first heard about Marianna while I was attending The Orange County High School of the Arts through a fellow student, Heidi Dean, who had this incredible voice and I knew I wanted to train with her. Marianna came to our school to see ‘Into the Woods’ and I met her after the show. Immediately her whole energy and aura was different than anyone I had ever met and we decided to train together. I would meet with Marianna every week and she would teach me these crazy voice exercises and really taught me how to shape and strengthen my voice. But Marianna taught me something and gives something to her students and the people in her life that goes beyond technique and vocal range. She gave me a confidence and connection to the artist in me, the professional in me, and the spirit that exists in all true artists. That is her true gift. I credit Marianna to my being cast in my first Broadway show, the revival of ‘Flower Drum Song’ starring Lea Salonga and still look to her for inspiration and direction. Let’s give and support Marianna back into the space where she can best share her gifts with the singers and artists who are waiting for her lesson.

Marianna gave me confidence not only as a singer, but in all areas of life. The individual attention she gives her students is unparalleled. She is not just a voice teacher to me, but has become like family. She is always giving back to others, and her illness has proven how many people stand by her and appreciate her as a mentor, teacher, and friend.

It’s hard to believe that you have been working with Katie since she was 9 years old. Because of your teaching and mentoring she has grown incredibly, both technically and emotionally as a performer. When I listen to Katie’s first recording of her performing Part of Your World in New York after beginning with you, and now listen to her recent singing, I am amazed at the vast difference in the strength of her vocal ability.

But you have never been just a technocrat. You have also always been a friend and mentor and concerned about her life and emotional strength personally and as a performer as well. You have a gift of encouraging your students to reach and test the limits of their potential. And you always gave them a goal to work towards with your frequent concerts and soiree’s which made her more confident and comfortable as a performer.

Your training was instrumental in her acceptances to The Chicago College For The Performing Arts and USC’s School of Drama, and I am sure it will continue to be a force in her career. You have been a dear friend to both her and our family, and we thank you for all you have done for her.

I cannot begin to explain to people how lucky I am to have had Marianna as my vocal mentor. She became my voice teacher by complete chance when I was six years old. Now, almost 24 years later, people still ask me, “Who taught you to sing? Where did you get that technique?” Her guidance has given me unshakable vocal foundation upon which I can make all of my artistic choices. I’m not sure I would have been able to become a professional actor and singer without her. I thank my lucky stars to have found her all those years ago, and I am grateful for her every single day and every time I step on stage.

I started taking voice lessons with Marianna when I was 14 years old. At the time, I knew I loved musicals and I enjoyed singing, but I never thought of it as a possible profession. Working with her opened up new worlds for me, and she helped set me on course for a life as a musical theatre performer. Over 20 years later, she is still inspirational to me, still attends my performances when she can, and is still a dear friend. Every night I when I perform in The Phantom of the Opera, I think about working with her on songs from the show when I was a teenager. She is an amazing teacher and a remarkable woman.

I remember walking into Marianna’s for the first time and not knowing my voice. I didn’t understand my instrument and I had no idea what I was capable of. 15 years later, I can look back with certainty and know that she is one of the main reasons why I have a singing career. She found a voice in me that no one else had cared to search for. She coaxed it out of me with patience and love and understanding- no other teacher had been that way with me before. I have never had a teacher since (in any regard) that I have trusted and learned as much from. She does anything and everything she can for her students and loves them like family. She is a rare gem in the entertainment industry and I am lucky to have found her at such an early age. I owe every dollar, every fulfilling moment I have had on stage, and every beautiful compliment I have received regarding my singing, to her. Without a doubt. Successful artists often talk about the coaches and fellow artists that they bring with them through-out their careers. The ones that bolster them and hone their sound in such a way that it isn’t the same without them. Marianna is one of those. The kind you are blessed to find, and hold onto for a lifetime.
